9/15/2013 Daily Update: Sunny Sunday, Ingrid Becomes Second Hurricane of Season

Good morning everyone!

Sunday should feature more sun than clouds... going to be a nice day!

TODAY: Sunny with highs in the mid 60s to lower 70s. Winds from the SW at 5 to 10 mph.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy with lows in the mid 40s to lower 50s. Winds from the SW at 5 mph.

TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy with a few showers possible. Highs in the mid 60s to near 70 degrees. Winds from the NW at 5 to 10 mph.

After some showers on Monday, things are looking sunny and dry through most of the week.

ATLANTIC TROPICS

  • Ingrid becomes the 2nd hurricane of the Atlantic hurricane season with sustained winds of 85 mph moving west toward Tampico, Mexico. Hurricane Warnings are up for the area. Flooding and landslides causing damage is inevitable. Rainfall forecasts are calling for 10-20" of rain. Eastern Mexico has already been hit by tropical cyclones this season with Barry, Fernand, and Tropical Depression Eight, but Ingrid is the strongest of them four. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
  • Remnants of Humberto is entering a less-sheared environment and could reform back as he heads north in the northern Atlantic. Should not be a threat to land but could become a powerful extratropical low once he reaches Iceland.

NATIONAL WEATHER

  • Nice conditions in the Northeast today
  • Scattered storms for the Gulf Coast and Southeast aided by tropical moisture
  • Storms for the Southwest and for central portions of the country along a stalled front
  • Warmth and rain entering the Northwest

WORLD WEATHER

  • Tropical Storm Manuel is a strong tropical storm near hurricane status with winds clocking at 70 mph and set to make landfall in western Mexico around Guadalajara. It's a one-two punch for Mexico with Ingrid affecting the other side of the nation.
  • Tropical Storm Man-yi is about to make landfall in central Japan, expecting to bring heavy rain and winds. Its path takes it near Fukushima, the site of the damaged nuclear reactor in the 2011 mega Japan earthquake.
  • Models have been developing a typhoon that will impact Taiwan in 5-6 days. Keeping an eye on that.
  • The European radar below showing showers in the U.K. and central portions of Europe.
  • Mainly showers over Southeast Australia
Radar of Europe at 12:00 UTC

EARTHQUAKES

  • There were no earthquakes rated at or above M6 yesterday or so far today, making it 8 straight days without one.

SPACE WEATHER

  • Solar weather remains pitiful and quiet for the time being. M-class flare chances are very low at 1% in the next 24 hours.
